Star Wars: Why Donald Glover’s Lando Series Is Taking SO LONG

Actor and musician Donald Glover is quite a busy man, and this is exactly why Lando is taking so much time to premiere on Disney+.

Kathleen Kennedy, President of LucasFilm talked to Cinema Blend during the recently held Star Wars Celebration, revealing why the series on Lando Calrissian that was announced way back in December 2020 has been going ahead so slowly.

Donald Glover Is Too Busy To Start On Lando

“You need to ask Donald,” Kennedy said. “He’s the one that holds all the cards here. But there’s no movement. I will say that honestly. But it’s not for lack of trying. It’s just that he’s a very busy guy. … He’s got another series, and I think one other thing, and then he’ll come our way. So patiently waiting.”

When Lando was initially announced, the only thing we knew was that Justin Simien (Dear White People) would be heading up the forthcoming series.

Donald Glover or Billy Dee Williams – Who Will Appear as Lando?

Fans weren’t informed which of the two Lando actors would return to reprise their roles. Over the time that went on, it became quite clear that Glover’s variant from Solo: A Star Wars Story was going to spearhead it, however, there was still a chance that Billy Dee Williams showed up after his Star Wars return in The Rise of Skywalker. While the latter’s involvement still remains unknown, Kennedy confirmed that Glover would head the Lando series during the Star Wars Celebration.

“We’re still talking about Lando with Donald Glover, for instance, but I don’t think we would intentionally just look back at some of the characters like Luke and Leia and whatnot and decide arbitrarily to do a story,” Kennedy revealed when he was asked about her comments which claimed that Lucasfilm will not be recasting Original Trilogy actors after the whole Solo failure. The reassurance that Lando, played by Glover, wasn’t part of the same statement assuaged the fans’ fears tremendously.

Many Star Wars Shows On Disney+ For Fans

Fortunately, many fans of the Star Wars franchise will no longer face any shortage of shows in the upcoming year. While Obi-Wan Kenobi is streaming on Disney+ at the moment, Star Wars Celebration came with the news on the upcoming Ahsoka, Andor, and Skeleton Crew alongside some updates on the third season of The Mandalorian and Bad Batch.
